It feels like winter has been a long one, I love the greys and bleak winter weather but I have to say I am more than happy to see the rays of sunshine breaking through bringing rebirth and renewal to our planet and dark days. Lots of positive things have been happening with regards to my photography and my photography project 'A Journey of Discovery Through Photography' teaching side of things. So the main thing is to get this news out to you out there!
February 21st - we held our Exhibition preview for the attendees of A Journey of Discovery which proved to be a huge success and the work produced for exhibition by the attendees is wonderful - extremely proud of all of their hard work. The exhibition is open until the middle of March at Middle St Resource Centre Beeston. The project is going really well with many people attending and a very good atmosphere and supportive environment between attendees I've been approached to take part in a science collaboration through Creative Reactions and am looking forward to hear back from the team as to who I will be paired with for this exciting Festival in May. I've chosen 3 areas of interest, Urban Ecology, Renewables and Spider's Ecology - time will tell which scientist I will get to collaborate with from the University of Nottingham. April 21st - 28th I am very excited to be exhibiting new and old work, alongside a range of international artists at the Out There Exhibition P Spowage Gallery, Byard Lane Nottingham. Our preview night is April 21st 6.30pm - 8pm all welcome. June 3rd and 4th weekend brings Open Studios in Beeston as part of the ABC Art Trail where I am more than happy to be exhibiting at the venue where I do some part time work also, Beeston Dental Practice reception and garden area - I will have a huge range of new and older work in exhibition and on sale - much of my larger scale work will be on show and new work from my experimental series 'Hominis Interitus' given that I have a large space to hang work, I will also be selling prints, cards and a range mini prints. My teaching work with Beeston Snappers is also bearing further fruit whereby we have created a body of work for the new Canal Heritage Centre in Beeston Rylands - firstly from a photo shoot that was carried out at the old Lock Keepers Cottage last year. The work will be in Exhibition later summer - more news to follow. On a personal level, I've had some gutting news about the land where my little hideaway studio space/caravan in Derbyshire is based, the land was sold in October 2016 to a company who will be redeveloping the land. This has truly been such terrible news as the land is a rarity, very untouched and wild with many different species of wildlife flora and fauna and has been a huge inspiration for my art - but from chaos I do believe new creativity can arise. We all have to move our vans to new spaces, there's an action group about the way the company have treated us all on the site - Haytop Caravan Owners Action Group - Please take the time to look at what the action group are doing. So this is news for now but much more to follow - for now it's time to enjoy the bright sunshine and spring flowers on this gorgeous spring day!
