Last week, we held our Backlit members' private view for the exhibition 'Bunch of fives'. I was really impressed with the turn out and it was great to meet new contacts in the art world with whom no doubt, there may be future collaborations, or happenings. Our exhibition runs Thurs - Sunday 12 -5pm until the 22nd February. For those who have already seen the work, thank you for taking the time to come and see it. For those who are thinking of going, I hope you enjoy the experience and work. I am looking forward to a revisit so I can reflect on each artist's work in my own space and time.
Winter this year feels long, I love the cold and crispness of winter, the bare trees laid out for us to view their winter vulnerability but somehow I am feeling ready for lighter, brighter days.. I am visualising a few places in my mind that remind of brighter, longer days and look forward to seeing the bright greens of these places in the future.. One of my favourite places, a forest in The Peak district, is currently on my mind a lot, I have spent a fair few times wild camping here, making fires and really connecting to the earth, the way that I like to... when I look back at this space i feel a deep and loving connection, the place indeed, will always hold a special place in my heart....

I am looking very forward to our members' exhibition at Backlit Gallery opening tonight, for the private view. Working alongside other artists and creative people is a wonderful thing. I decided to become an associate member of Backlit Gallery in May 2014 and it's been great getting involved on the level that I can with the time that I have. It is also really constructive to be able to use a large space when possible for both practice shoots and or/creating new work. I think anyone as a creative, working alone, at times needs to be around fellow creatives not only for discussion, news and idea sharing but also for the constructive critique side of one's own work. This has been really constructive for me as a lone worker often wondering off into my own head with my own dreams and visions of how I want to create a new piece of work and get the feedback from this. I must say, I am looking forward to see everyone elses' work and how the final exhibition tonight has all come together by all of the other artists but also, those who curate, technically sort things and market etc. Great to be part of a gallery and studio who work together and reach the final outcomes for us and the public to appreciate. Here's to tonight!!
